When changing areas, new graphics aren't loaded, except for the Jyotyu (blocks) palette.The code handling backgrounds is inconsistent, reading the several background properties from different entries.The feature was designed for an older revision of the game which used a different VRAM layout.In practice, the code for this feature is incomplete, and a number of issues prevent it from working as intended: Each area can be set to use different background and tileset entries, which would in theory allow for multiple areas with different graphics in the same level. The level header blocks defining backgrounds and tilesets can contain multiple entries. You can activate it while in-level by changing any of the relevant addresses above to 0x02. It was probably used for testing, rather than for any real gameplay purpose. Levels with Secret Exits have two flagpoles in different locations: one has a regular black flag, while the other has a red Bowser flag that leads to new stages, shortcuts or Warp Cannons.Mario will start a stage as Mini Mario. This cannon will take you to the Flower world.Ĭhoose a level below to reveal its Star Coins and Secret Exits. Clear that level and you can now access the cannon. Above that path there will be a P switch. Push the middle and right one and proceed through the top pathway. Go to the Ghost House where you pick up the third star coin. The Flower World can also be reached from the cannon in the Mushroom World. Make it to the flagpole to unlock the Warp Cannon that will take you to the Flower World. Survive through the rest of the level, and don't let yourself get squished by the tricky blocks you'll find along the way. Follow the right block to find a Mini Warp Pipe. Once you're in the castle, proceed as normal until you come upon the first set of small, square blocks which float up and then separate (this occurs fairly early on in the level). ![]()
